The African Organization for Academic and Athletic Development (AOAAD) has planned a humanitarian expedition to Senegal from June 3rd to June 18th 2010. The purpose of the expedition encompasses several areas.
- We would like to place a team of volunteers to work in the orphanages to assess needs, such as; clean water, adequate food supply, education, adequate electricity, etc. When these needs are assessed we would like to make a plan for long term sustainability of these needs.
- We will take a team of surgeons to Senegal to work in a few of the Regional Hospitals to perform operations on patients that would not be able to afford these procedures without our help.
- We will teach Community Health Care workers and Midwives classes on aseptic technique, labor and delivery, basic neonatal care, and basic care that can be provided in rural areas where medical care is not available.
- We would run Basketball camps for hundreds of children, and coaches' clinics, sending messages for Education, Health issues.
- We would also like to deliver wheelchairs to the orphanage and the handicapped center to give the patients there more independence.
- We would also donate solar cookers to different communities after training session.
Our vision is to assess other needs in the villages as well, and focus on areas where we can teach sustainable solutions.
We would kindly ask that the volunteers to assist with supplies, such as wheelchairs, newborn kits, hygiene kits, school kits, and the cost of shipping containers from the U.S to Senegal. We are working with foundations to obtain major medical equipments.
