Program Overview
The African Organization for Academic and Athletic Development (AOAAD), in collaboration with Charity Anywhere Foundation http://www.charityanywhere.org/ , will travel to Senegal for a humanitarian trip under the program called MalariAttack.
“MALARIATTACK” is a humanitarian project in Senegal that consists of raising more awareness about the disease of malaria and other social issues in Africa. The group fundraised in order to buy insecticide-treated bed nets, and to donate medicines and medical supplies in hospitals, and orphanages in Senegal http://www.vivre-ensemble-madesahel.org/06c.html. Volunteers will travel in June 2009 to Senegal where they will be operating on the ground, donating, and distributing mosquito nets and malaria medicines to local people in need. The villages targeted are Mbour, Joal-Fadiouth, and Nianing (Petite Cote) in the Southwest of the Capital Dakar, Kaolack and Fatick.

Volunteers are going to help finish the orphan babies’ new facility in the center, and put up the new roof, donate equipments and medical supplies. Days of training classes will also be offered by volunteers professional in the medical field to local nurses and caregivers.

Some members of the group, professional therapists, will perform a therapy clinic at the Orphanage “Vivre Ensemble” and at the Handicap Center in Mbour http://www.chm-khady-gueye.org/index.php?n=Sport.Sport Cal Berkeley Women Basketball Head Coach Joanne Boyle, and Princeton, TX High School Coach Raymond Scott will also hold Basketball clinics for the Center’s Handibasket team and also for the village of Nianing kids. (Boys & Girls under 15). Basketballs, gears, shoes, and sports equipments will be donated to the team.

The group will stay at the lodge “Le Bentenier” http://www.lebentenier.org/liens.html located 5 kms from the orphanage. Coaches Boyle and Scott will hold Basketball clinics for 200 boys and girls between the age of 8 and 15. Themes about the importance of Sports and Education will be discussed with the kids, local coaches, and parents.
Village of Joal-Fadiouth http://www.congo-pages.org/senegal/fadiouth.htm :
Volunteers will visit the village of Joal-Fadiouth, and its medical center. Medical supplies will be donated. The group will also have the opportunity to visit the Center of composting household waste of Joal-Fadiouth inaugurated on June 12, 2009 by the U.S Ambassador in Senegal.
Fatick & Kaolack:
The Group will be visiting the Hospitals and Handicap Center in Kaolack and Fatick. Both cities are located in the Center.

African Organization for Academic and Athletic Development (AOAAD) is a community-based non for-profit organization 501c 3 headquartered in Michigan, and involved in the State of Utah and its community. Their members will help facilitate opportunities, partnership and contacts, projects implementation, and on-the ground programs’ operations in Senegal, and in different other African countries.
Many other issues are challenging the African countries- education, poverty, health, environment, economy etc... AOAAD and its partners will promote Senegal enhancing Studies abroad, cross-cultural exchange, researches, and volunteering programs in all fields of studies. Our goal is to promote Education thru Sports, enhancing Community Development in Senegal.

MALARIATTACK ARCHIVES
SENEGAL 2009
MalariAttack was a humanitarian, and medical expedition in Senegal, West Africa organized by African Organization for Academic and Athletic Development (AOAAD) in partnership with the Charity Anywhere Foundation, and volunteers from all differents States in the US, and also from the UK.
It was also a sport team trip for Coaches to run basketball clinics for hundreds of kids, emphasizing Sport for socio-economical development. Shoes, basketballs, sports gears were distributed to hundreds of kids in Senegal.
Hospitals, small medical centers, schools, orphanages were visited, and medicines, clothes, toys, hygiene and baby kits were distributed to needy people. Materials- babies and orphan kits, hygiene and school kits- were donated by the LDS Students Association at Utah State University (Special thanks to Laura Cheney). Funds to buy medicines and mosquito nets were raised with the help of Utah State University Women Basketball team, and Public Relation Students at USU Journalism Department.
An Ambulance was donated specifically to the Orphanage “Vivre Ensemble” (Living together) in Mbour, Senegal (80 kms Southwest of the Capital Dakar) by the Calbears Women Basketball team in Berkeley, CA and its supporters under the leadership of Head Coach Joanne Boyle. We wish them a great 2010 NCAA season.
